Carib Plate is a digital health and nutrition application built and operated in Trinidad and Tobago. Our app helps Caribbean users track their meals, calories, and nutrition using an authentic Caribbean food database, AI coaching, and meal planning tools.

2. What information we collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you use Carib Plate:

• Profile information — your name, age, weight, height, and activity level (used only to calculate your personal calorie target)
• Food diary data — the meals and foods you log each day
• Health notes — any health conditions or dietary preferences you choose to enter
• Payment information — handled entirely by PayPal. We do not store your card or bank details. PayPal's privacy policy applies to payment data.
• Usage data — basic information about how you use the app (pages visited, features used) to help us improve the service

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Carib Plate service
• Calculate your personal daily calorie and macro targets
• Power AI Coach Nadia's personalised recommendations
• Generate your 30-day meal plans
• Process your subscription payments through PayPal
• Send you service-related communications (e.g. receipts, updates)
• Comply with legal obligations

4. Advertising (Free plan)

The free version of Carib Plate may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google uses cookies and similar technologies to show ads relevant to your interests. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings.

Premium subscribers do not see any advertisements.

5. AI Coach (Premium feature)

Carib Plate's AI Coach Nadia is powered by Anthropic's Claude AI. When you use the Coach feature, your messages and diary context are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic processes this data in accordance with their Privacy Policy. We do not store your conversation history beyond your current session.

6. Open Food Facts

When you use the World Food Search feature, your search queries are sent to the Open Food Facts API (openfoodfacts.org). Open Food Facts is an open database and processes queries in accordance with their own privacy policy. No personal information is shared with Open Food Facts.

7. Data storage

Your food diary, profile, and app settings are currently stored locally in your browser (localStorage). This means:

• Your data stays on your device
• Clearing your browser data will erase your diary history
• Your data is not synced across devices at this time

We plan to introduce optional cloud sync in a future update, which will be covered by an updated privacy policy.

8. Data sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data with:

• PayPal — to process subscription payments
• Anthropic — to power AI Coach Nadia (Premium only)
• Google AdSense — to serve advertisements (Free plan only)
• Legal authorities — if required by law

9. Cookies

Carib Plate uses the following cookies and similar technologies:

• Essential cookies — to remember your premium subscription status
• Analytics cookies — to understand how users interact with the app (anonymised)
• Advertising cookies — used by Google AdSense on the free plan to serve relevant ads

Carib Plate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Carib Plate after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
